Circles are a structured form of communication that are different than the typical way we talk with each other.
Circles allow each participant to listen deeply and be heard profoundly. Used for centuries by indigenous people to build community, resolve conflict and promote respectful dialogue among people with differing points of view, circles are now being used in business, human services, the legal system and education.
Here at the Center, we have used Circles during the past six years in over a hundred different settings on a wide variety of topics. We’ve used Circles for teams in conflict; for community-wide forums on topics such as sex trafficking, livable communities, and the Jewish-Palestinian issue. We’ve trained hundreds of youth to be Circle facilitators so they can take leadership positions in their communities.
Circles build community, resolve conflict, and increase understanding of divergent views by creating a safe, comfortable space for all participants.
In our Dialogue Facilitator Training, you will learn the basics of being a Circle facilitator and how a Circle works. You’ll experience and get a chance to co-facilitate a Circle with feedback provided by our mentor Circle facilitators. Plus, you receive a sample agenda and scripts to use for your own Circles. As a graduate you will be offered opportunities to be a volunteer Circle facilitator for the Center.
