Self-defense specifically for the LGBTQIA+ and allied community in a safe environment. As part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have long wanted to do self-defense classes for those who feel more comfortable in a class with other like-minded individuals.
It is an unfortunate reality that we are a part of a group that tends to be targeted for not only violence, but verbal disparagement as well.
Self-defense is not always physical; it is also about recognizing potentially dangerous situations, verbal de-escalation, avoidance and situational awareness, knowing your own vulnerabilities, violence pre-indicators and more.
It is also important to have the mindset of survival by any means necessary, ant to fight just as hard for ourselves as we would a loved one.
I believe in a holistic approach to self-defense. The mental aspect is even more important than the physical because that is where everything originates.
In this class I will teach you:
- How to find the proper self-defense mindset to change a freeze response into action
- Verbal de-escalation
- Situational awareness
- Indicators that precede violence
- Physical self-defense techniques such as bearhug defenses, choke defenses, strikes, kicks, knees, eye strikes, ground defense etc. What I do not cover in this class will be continued in future classes.
- Emphasis on self-value, confidence, and body language
- And having fun! Self-defense is a serious topic, but it can be approached in a lighthearted way that makes it less daunting. There will most definitely be some singing and dancing involved.
- Minors need to be accompanied by an adult.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR/BRING? Wear whatever you are comfortable working out in. We train barefoot. Bring water.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. NO FITNESS LEVEL NECESSARY.
